Exercise Doesn’t Need to Be Painful to Be Effective, By: Dave DePew
I think people often see exercise as something that needs to be difficult or down right painful. Such as the no pain, no gain mind set. I don’t necessarily subscribe to this philosophy with every client. Pain after all is usually an indication that something is not right. It is true that exercise is a personal thing. Some people need to feel pushed, but certainly we don’t want injury.
For the person starting out it doesn’t make sense to train to the point in that first workout that the next day you are so sore you don’t want to come back. I mean how is this setting you up for success? If you can do anything starting out you’re already doing a 100% more than what you did last week.
Part of my system is called the Good, Better, Best. Some of you may have heard this saying before; Good, Better, and Best never let it rest until your good is your better and your better is best.
Well, most people start out thinking they need to do things 100% in order to be successful and I say you only need to be doing something at first. It is true that we must continually progress for more in our exercise and there is a fine line to walk between being comfortable and being effective. This is why people need to hire a fitness expert.
You get started with a little something and together we can work at the rest and in time get you to your best!
