Officer resigns amid steroid allegation

Officer resigns amid steroid allegation, By: Christy Arnold

A Charlotte County corrections officer resigned amid allegations he used steroids, drank alcohol while underage and lied to investigators.

Officer Robert Tuck, 20, resigned June 22 from the Sheriff's Office.

Tuck's ex-girlfriend, Tori Millican, told Internal Affairs investigators that he has been involved in illegal activities, including underage drinking and using steroids, according to the report. Millican told investigators this in late May, shortly after she and Tuck ended their relationship.

She told investigators Tuck would buy the steroids from a man named "Steve" at a home on a street off Collingswood Boulevard in Port Charlotte, states the report.

Investigators met with Tuck on June 14, when he told them Millican has always accused him of using steroids.

"Tuck stated she has no proof he has ever taken any steroids," states the report.

Investigators sent Tuck for a drug test.

Officials learned on June 21 that Tuck tested positive for steroids, states the report.

Tuck returned to the Sheriff's Office on June 23, asking to meet with internal affairs investigators.

"Tuck stated he lied in his statement and did not want to embarrass his family members, who are currently employed with the Sheriff's Office," states the report.

Tuck then asked to resign.

"I first want to apologize for wasting any time spent on my investigation due to me not being truthful," Tuck wrote to Sheriff John Davenport in his resignation letter. "I was always told to tell the truth regardless of the consequences and take my faults like a man ... But looking back, I realize that the truth would have hurt less people. So I just wanted to apologize for wasting your time, money and efforts in this investigation."

Internal Affairs investigators found that Tuck violated three charges. He broke the law twice by drinking underage and using steroids, states the report. Investigators also found that Tuck committed perjury by lying in his statement, states the report.

He resigned before being punished.

Tuck joined the Sheriff's Office on Sept. 26, 2005.
