BOSTON -- A Canton man who police described as one of the biggest steroid dealers in the country faced charges on Tuesday.
NewsCenter 5's Jack Harper reported that prosecutors said Bruce Kneller produced batches of steroids in his kitchen.
"Through someone's kitchen in Canton, you have a nationwide distribution that was done in an unsafe, unsanitary manner with very little oversight," Norfolk County District Attorney Bill Keating said.
Keating said that some of the ingredients in the steroids were not safe for humans.
"It said it was for veterinary use only. It would be used for injection into heifers, but not sooner than 63 days before slaughter," Keating said.
On several Internet sites, the former registered nurse wrote about the value of steroids. Officials said that Kneller and a California accomplice said in one e-mail, they filled 15,000 orders over seven years.
"The source advises the special agent that the individuals behind the e-mail account operate the largest underground steroid lab in the country and have been operating this for at least six years," prosecutor Craig Kowalski said.
"I think he is a family man. He is married. He has been in the community for a long time. He has never been in trouble before in his life," defense attorney Ed Sharkansky said.
