Doctor charged in steroid ring faces arraignment
April 4, 2007
A court appearance today for a former New York doctor accused of illegally writing prescriptions for steroids and human growth hormone.
Ana Maria Santi is set to be arraigned this afternoon in U.S. District Court in Providence. Prosecutors say Santi wrote prescriptions for customers of American Pharmaceutical Group despite having been stripped of her medical license in New York.
They also say she never met the customers for whom she was writing the prescriptions. The owner of the company, Daniel McGlone, has pleaded not guilty in federal court in Rhode Island.
But another New York doctor pleaded guilty for his role in the alleged scheme and has agreed to cooperate with federal prosecutors.
