BOSTON Boston Mayor Tom Menino wants mandatory steroid testing for the city's police officers.
Menino spokesman Rebecca Frisch says the mayor will negotiate with the police union about the testing. Union president Thomas Nee says he is open to steroids testing, but wants to make sure the testing would be fair to the officers.
The suspected ringleader among three Boston officers facing illegal drug charges also is accused of trafficking in steroids. Roberto Pulido allegedly imported the steroids from a drug dealer in Greece.
It is illegal in Massachusetts to possess or distribute steroids without a prescription.
