Two Lee County Sheriff's corrections officers have been fired for lying during an investigation into steroid use at the Lee County Jail.
Sheriff Mike Scott said this morning that Officer Marc Lepore was fired Tuesday and Sgt. Keith Sechrist was fired at 8 this morning.
Scott said another officer, Sgt. Jason Miller, was suspended without pay for two weeks.
Here's what happened, according to Scott:
A jail worker reported that there were corrections officers illegally using steroids. An investigation was started.
During the investigation, the two lied. That's why they were fired, Scott said.
The investigation ended this morning, Scott said.
Miller was truthful, Scott said, but he should have known there was something suspicious about the mail-order company they used to buy the steroids.
The officers have 30 days to appeal the firings.
