Test labs for NCAA, WWE bidding for Texas program

DALLAS (AP) - Companies that do drug testing for the NCAA and World Wrestling Entertainment are vying to run the Texas random steroids testing program.

A total of 14 companies have submitted bids to operate the 2-year, $6 million legislative mandate.

The testing of some 23,000 high school students is expected to begin this fall.

Harvey Graves with Houston-based Pinnacle Medical Management calls it "the mother of all steroids contracts." His company is among the bidders.

The list of bidders, obtained by The Associated Press through an open-records request to the University of Texas, includes eleven companies based in Texas.

The University Interscholastic League today said there's no set deadline to select a contractor.

Public high schools began football practice last week and play their first games August 30th.
