Middleweight fails dope test
January 10, 2007
MARIANO Carrera has been stripped of his World Boxing Association middleweight title after testing positive for the banned steroid clenbuterol, Argentinean newspaper Clarin reported overnight.
The Argentinean boxer's positive test came in December, when he won the title from Spain's Javier Castillejo.
Argentina's WBA representative Sebastian Contursi told the newspaper: "The substance found is clenbuterol."
Clenbuterol is a steroid that helps increase muscle mass, reduce weight and improve breathing.
Carrera's agent Mario Margossian denied his fighter had doped.
