The Mets Are Beefing Up Their Steroid Education
The Mets Are Beefing Up Their Steroid Education
May 18, 2007
You know, when three guys in your organization fail drug tests in the last six months or so, it may be time to do something about it. At least, that seems to be the New York Metropolitans line of thinking. Time to revamp the steroid education, folks.
"We do educational stuff already, and we do a bunch of it. We will be looking into it," chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon said Thursday. "I've spoken to the doctors, and I've spoken to the nutritionist."
Wilpon intends to meet with general manager Omar Minaya and his staff to review the team's anti-drug efforts.
"Not to stop the positive tests but to educate the kids so they know what they're doing to their bodies and they know that besides being illegal and against the rules, that it's not good for them," Wilpon said. "They don't need to do it."
Yes, yes, this is so brilliant. Once their players know the dangers of steroids, no one will ever take them in the organization again. Case closed. These guy are geniuses. I expect a cure for cancer out of the Mets camp within the month.
At this point, it might just be a better idea to educate the players on how not to fail a drug test. That way, everybody wins.
