Spaniard wins case to clear name
July 12, 2006
Spaniard Daniel Plaza, gold medallist in the 20-km walk at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, has won a case to clear his name after failing a doping test a decade ago.
Spain's supreme court found in Plaza's favour on Monday after he took legal action against the Spanish Committee for Sporting Discipline for handing him a two-year ban in 1997.
Plaza, who tested positive for the steroid nandrolone after the 1996 Spanish championships, denied taking the drug.
He tested negative in further tests for a drug which normally takes three months to disappear from the system.
