Rome, Italy (AHN) - The Italian Olympic Committee has suspended AC Milan's Marco Borriello on Friday after a test came back positive for two performance-enhancing drugs.
Borriello was tested following his team's 2-1 loss to AS Roma back in November, and the drugs prednisolone and prednisone were discovered in his urine sample, both of which are corticosteroids.
The 24-year old Borriello has played in seven games so far this season the team in the Serie A league and three times in the Champion League. His coach said the team would do its own investigation into the incident.
"The certainty on the part of the team that the product, which turned up by the analysis, isn't used by Milan," Carlo Ancellotti said in a statement on the team's website. "It's something that didn't happen in Milanello (the team's training facility)," he added.
"He was being treated for his teeth at the time, but I don't believe it depends on that," he said. "We are all close to him."
Borriello has scored three goals this season so far for AC Milan.
