December 29, 2006
An all-conference football player at University of Wisconsin-Stout is due in court Jan. 16 after being charged with letting a former player sell illegal drugs at his Menomonie apartment.
Luke Steffen, 22, Greenwood, is charged with maintaining a place for drug trafficking and three misdemeanor possession charges for cocaine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
According to prosecutors, an informant bought cocaine from ex-UW-Stout receiver John Freeman, 25, and Steffen later told investigators he let it happen because Freeman needed the money.
Officers said they also found steroids at Steffen’s home when they raided it Dec. 15.
Freeman is charged five drug-related counts and is due in court March 13.
Freeman’s 21-year-old brother Andre is also charged with maintaining a drug trafficking house and marijuana possession and he’s scheduled to appear in court January 16th.
A fourth defendant, UW-Stout football player Nicholas OrRico, 21, Lodi, also faces a pair of cocaine and marijuana charges and police said they also found steroids at his house. He’s due in court Jan. 22.
