In accordance with new state law, the Palo Alto school board has adopted a policy that prohibits the use of androgenic and anabolic steroids among student athletes and requires coaches to educate students about the dangers of such drugs.
The Board of Education voted unanimously at its Tuesday night meeting to adopt the steroids policy, which is a new requirement for all districts that want to maintain memberships with the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). CIF is the governing body for all interscholastic sports.
Other Bay Area districts that have also adopted policies include Campbell, Los Gatos-Saratoga, Mountain View-Los Altos and San Mateo.
