Lawmakers Want to Crack Down on Steroids in Schools
May 25, 2006
Some state lawmakers want to crack down on steroid use in high schools. A package of bills would prohibit anabolic steroids within 1,000 feet of a school or park.
The bills would also make it a state policy that students caught using steroids or certain dietary supplements, would not be able to participate in school-sponsored athletics.
Rep. Dick Ball (R) Bennington Township: "The incentive for the student, thinking they can get an edge in athletic performance, is high at that age, and they don't understand the tremendous negative long-term effects, some of which are very devastating."
The bills have already passed in the state house. They go before the senate education committee.
