Interview With Rob Colacino

Interview With Rob Colacino

DD: Rob, thanks for being with us today.
RC: My pleasure.

DD: You've had a lot of success with competitive bodybuilding on both the regional and national level.
RC: That's right.

DD: You've won the NABBA Mr.
USA and have also placed in the top 4 at several Mr. Universe competitions. What's the secret to your success?
RC: I'd have to say the #1 secret to my success, aside from desire, motivation, and inner drive, would have to be my Psycho-Burst training and diet.

DD: Your approach to training is rather unique. Tell me more about it. How did you develop the Psycho-Burst training program?
RC: I used to train like everybody else...20 sets a body part, 8 to 12 reps and all that stuff. It worked OK to a point but seemed to be not very efficient. So I started experimenting with some rather unusual techniques at the end of my sets to try and increase the intensity and stimulate more muscle mass growth. When that got good results for me I decided to try not doing my normal set but just doing my special end-of-set techniques...and that worked even better. Finally after 10 years of experimentation on myself and many other bodybuilders, I've gotten the formula exactly right. The Psycho-Burst training system is the most effective and efficient way to train for maximum gains in muscle mass as quickly as possible.

DD: How important is diet when following the Psycho-Burst training system?
RC: Very important! If you're not eating correctly to support the kind of mass gains this training program can stimulate, you're not gonna make maximum gains. Whenever anybody tells me they're not making very good gains on this program I can usually trace the problem back to their diet. Most people drastically underestimate how much protein and good quality food they need to eat to make gains on this program. Bulk up in your off season. Don’t worry about your body fat percentage too much, but eat clean (no sugar) for 6 days and every 7th day have a “cheat day.” Off season bulk up more and more every year so when you rip up you are bigger and leaner. Don’t get too fat in the off season. Stick to eating clean foods and you should be OK. But it’s normal to put on some extra body fat while you’re bulking up and adding muscle mass so don’t worry too much if your abdominals start to blur over.

DD: How much do you bulk up in the off season?
RC: I'm 5'9" tall and usually bulk up to somewhere around 300 lbs.

DD: 300 lbs??!!! Jeez! That's huge!
RC: Yeah, but if I stayed close to my competitive weight year round I would never be able to get bigger and bigger each year. I would never be able to add any muscle mass. To add significant mass in the off season you have to bulk up. That means consistently eating a lot of good quality food every day.

DD: Give me an idea of a typical day's eating for you when you're adding muscle mass in the off season.
RC: OK, in a typical off season day I drink about $10-20 worth of the high carb drinks, high protein drinks, and 1100 calorie drinks from the gym every day. In addition to that I'll eat...

1 lb. of pasta
20 oz. of chicken
4 to 6 cans of tuna
30 oz. Potatoes
9 Tbs. of grits
4 pcs whole wheat bread
Tomato sauce
Nature Taste (like Equal but less expensive)
Diet soda
1 gallon water a day
10 egg whites
2200 calorie milk shake a day in addition to the drinks from the gym (use skim milk.)
Any kind of fruit
And during the week non-fat sugar free yogurt from TCBY
No sugar, non fat pudding
Brownies
Sugar free non fat treats (as many as I want)

DD: Wow! How many calories is that?
RC: I don't know. A lot! (laughs)

DD: How many grams of protein a day do you recommend?
RC: I would recommend 1.5 to 2 grams of protein for every pound of body weight. If you weighed 200 lbs. you should try to eat 300 to 400 grams of high quality protein every day.

DD: Wow, that's a lot.
RC: Yeah, but the Psycho-Burst training program can give you some massive gains in muscle mass in a very short period of time. If you really want to make those kind of gains, you've got to be eating all that protein and calories every day to support that growth. If you don't your gains just won't be very substantial.

DD: Rob, that's about all the time we have for today. I hope you'll agree to another interview some time in the future when your schedule permits.
RC: I'd be glad to.

DD: Where can we get more info about the Psycho-Burst training program?
RC: Go to www.psychoburst.com on the World Wide Web.

DD: OK, thanks again, Rob.
RC: You're welcome, Dan.
