Q: I am a 25 year old male. I am 5'9, 130 lbs (was 142 in the summer). I can't seem to put on weight. I can eat pretty much anything in front of me, and not gain a pound. I am also lactose intolerant, so I am unable to eat dairy.

My question is this. Does anyone know of a supplement I can buy that would help me out. My goal weight would be 155 to 160lbs...

A: You did not specify how much sleep you get, or if you even lift weights or not. If you are just starting to lift weights or don't, then supplements won't really do a damn thing for you. Best not to worry about supplements for the time being. The two best "supplements" (along with the proper exercise of course) to gaining mass is proper rest, and proper diet. If those aren't in order, then you'll never get any bigger than you currently are, even if you do lift weights.

An easy way to do this, if you are lactose intolerant as you say, would be to eat three solid meals a day (as you probably do already), but add about 3 or 4 cans of tuna in between those "regular" meals. You'd be surprised at what a few cans of tuna a day can do for your body ... if you can stand it of course. Tuna is packed with protein (just 4 cans a day would be an extra 130 grams of protein a day !!) and almost that alone would be enough to gain some muscle for a person of your size. Make sure to go no longer than 2 1/2 hours without eating some protein and complex carbohydrates.

Also, be sure your getting plenty of rest. If your a high strung person, then I'd try to get 9 if not 10 hours of sleep every single night if possible. That may not be compatible with your schedule, but it WILL help you grow if you don't get very much sleep.

Do those two things, and keep stress low, and you WILL get bigger .... I guarantee it.
