Washington County Sheriff Deputy Bryce Kampwerth Indicted on Steroid Possession Charges
Bryce Kampwerth, an NPC Men’s Physique competitor employed by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) since January 2014, has been indicted by a Washington County grand jury after being accused of possession of a controlled substance (anabolic steroids). Kampwerth was arrested on December 17, 2017.
The investigation into Kampwerth’s alleged steroid use began at the beginning of December 2017 according to WCSO spokesperson Deputy Jeff Talbot. The WCSO was contacted by an undisclosed person and provided with information linking Kampwerth to anabolic steroids. The information involved an incident in which Kampwerth was allegedly in possession of steroids while off-duty in May 2017.
The WCSO passed the information about Kampwerth over to the Beaverton Police Department (BPD) in order to avoid any conflicts of interest. The Beaverton Police conducted a brief investigation into Kampwerth. Washington County prosecutors presented the findings to a grand jury which found sufficient evidence to indict.
Of course, the fact that the 33-year old Kampwerth competed in the NPC – an amateur bodybuilding organization where the use of anabolic steroids, human growth hormone, and various other muscle-building drugs is rampant and generally accepted among its participants – should have been enough to raise suspicions in the first. Kampwerth had recently competed in contests such as the 2016 NPC Northwest Championships, the 2016 NPC Battle for the Eagle and the 2016 NPC Pacific Coast Championship.
Kampwerth was also highly involved in the local bodybuilding community. The patrol deputy was also a personal trainer with his ISAA Personal Training Certification who operated his own internet-based meal planning business called KampBfit. Depending on the prospective client’s experience level, Kampwerth would either analyze client’s MyFitnessPal data and make macro-nutrient adjustments as necessary or he would provide a comprehensive diet plan telling clients exactly what to eat and when.
Kampwerth was immediately placed on paid administrative leave by the WCSO pending the resolution of his court case. Kampwerth is scheduled to appear in Washinngton County Circuit Court on December 21, 2017.
