UFC Renews Contract After USADA Clears Jon Jones of Wrongdoing | steroid.com

USADA’s drug testing contract was about to expire. UFC did not renew until after USADA cleared Jon Jones of using steroids.

Ultimate Fight Championship (UFC) has renewed the drug testing and results management contract with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). However, UFC only did so after USADA completely cleared UFC superstar Jon Jones of wrongdoing. The appearance of a quid pro quo arrangement is unavoidable.

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones tested positive for Oral Turinabol metabolites on at least three different occasions in the past five months. Jones tested positive for a long-acting metabolite of dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (DHCMT) designated as “M3” on December 9th, September 18th and August 29th.

Jones protested his innocence just like the two other times he tested positive for prohibited drugs and was suspended as a result. USADA appeared to give Jones special treatment by conducting a thorough investigation that included contacting numerous anti-doping experts and scientists around the world to come up with an alternate explanation that would support Jones’ innocence.

USADA’s new hypothesis clears Jon Jones and also “coincidentally” secures a new lucrative UFC contract.

USADA ultimately concluded that Jones did not use Oral Turinabol again. The three new failed drug tests were merely leftover from the last time Jones ingested Oral Turinabol --- over 18 monnths ago!

Nevermind the general scientific consensus is that the window of detection for Oral Turinabol (and DHCMT M3 and M4 metabolites) is up to 6-months. All of a sudden, USADA claims that “science” suggests the window could be over 18-months. Or if UFC Vice President of Athlete Health and Performance Jeff Novitzkyis to be believed, the window of detection is infinite and Oral Turinabol could remain in the body forever.

USADA and UFC have introduce an unproven hypothesis that Oral Turinabol continues to appear in the system for years after discontinuation due to a “pulsing” effect in the body. There is absolutely no scientific evidence to support such an effect for exogenous anabolic steroids. There is one study to suggest pulsing could occur with clomiphene. But it is not certain that this would be applicable to hormones like Oral Turinabol.

But none of that matters because USADA has given Jon Jones a pass. The UFC is so happy that its star athlete cancompete that it gives USADA a huge amount of money to renew its contract. And USADA is happy that is has secured a hugely lucrative contract. The contract is by far the most profitable contract that it has ever received from a private sporting organization.

It may seem like quid pro quo. But things are not always as they appear.

For example, sometimes a positive steroid test is not really a positive steroid test.
