Topless Waitress Charged in Massive Australian Steroid Operation

Topless Waitress Charged in Massive Australian Steroid Operation

A topless waitress and her bodybuilder boyfriend have been formally accused of importing massive quantities of performance-enhancing drugs by Australian prosecutors. Nateesha Barlin and Dyllan Shaw appeared in Woy Woy Local Court on January 10, 2017 to face charges of unlawfully importing anabolic steroids and human growth hormone

Barlin, who listed her occupation as a topless waitress and vet nurse in court documents, was charged with one count of importing prohibited tier 1 goods, in violation of the Australian Customs Act 1901; Barlin allegedly attempted to import 200 milliliters of anabolic steroids on February 25, 2016. Shaw was charged with five counts of importing prohibited tier 1 goods involving 11,000 milliliters of liquid testosterone, 170 vials of hGH and five vials of injectable testosterone between February 2016 and October 2016. Shaw faced the additional charge of obstructing a Commonwealth ABF officer.

The charges are the result of a two-year sting operation conducted by the Australian Border Force (ABF). The investigation into the bodybuilding couple began in October 2014 and culminated with a series of raids involving multiple properties linked to Barlin and Shaw between November 7, 2016 and November 11, 2016.

The raids were conducted and the search warrants were executed only after ABF officers intercepted and seized 17 consignments containing contraband coming into Australia from various other countries between October 2014 and October 2016. The 17 packages contained a total of 13,672 tablets of various pharmaceutical drugs, 11,200 milliliters of testosterone, 600 milliliters of other injectable anabolic steroids, 102 capsules of oxymetholone (Anesterone), 120 milliliters of clenbuterol, 195 vials of Somatotropin and 20 vials and 55 ampules of hGH.

The November raids resulted in the additional seizure of 12,000 liters of various PEDs, 300 vials of suspected hGH and 100 grams of cannabis.

Barlin and Shaw are scheduled to make their next court appearances on March 14, 2017. If convicted, they face up to five years in prison and/or up to a $180,000 fine for each offense.

In an ABF statement published on November 22, 2016, Commander Immigration and Customs Enforcement Anthony Seebach cited the prosecution of Barlin and Shaw as proof of the government’s commitment to protecting the community from “dangerous drugs”.

“These drugs can have serious health impacts for users and the ABF is committed to protecting our community by stamping out the illicit importation of these dangerous drugs,” Seebach said.

“If you import steroids or other performance and image enhancing drugs without a permit you're breaking the law and you will face the consequences.”
