Richard Giacobone was a 10-year veteran cop on steroids. He was arrested again on drug charges following the dismissal of similar charges last year.
Richard Giacobone, a suspended steroid-using cop employed by the Palisades Park Police Department (PPPD), was arrested again after police found cocaine and several other recreational drugs in his vehicle during a traffic stop December 10, 2018.
Giacobone was charged with one count of third-degree felony cocaine possession, two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance and one count of drug paraphernalia possession.
It was not the first time that Giacobone ran into legal trouble involving illicit drugs. Giacobone was first arrested for drug crimes last fall. The first arrest took place shortly after Giacobone showed up at work while high on drugs. His colleagues reported him.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Confidential Investigations Unit and Narcotics Task Force conducted a brief investigation into Giacobone’s drug problems before obtaining a search warrant. The Task Force, in conjunction with the Fort Lee Police Department (FLPD), raided his home on November 9, 2017.
Investigators seized a personal supply of various illicit drugs including anabolic steroids, cocaine and marijuana. Giacobone was charged last year with third-degree felony anabolic steroid possession, third-degree felony cocaine possession, misdemeanor marijuana possession and fourth degree unlawful possession of large capacity ammunition magazines.
All of those charges were dismissed without prejudice by a Superior Court judge in August 2018. Nonetheless, Giacobone remained suspended without pay from PPPD. He has not yet been disciplined by the PPPD.
Palisades Park Mayor-Elect Chris Chung called PPPD officer Giacobone’s drug problems “a sad and unfortunate situation”.
"It's a sad and unfortunate situation, but something that needs to be dealt with," Chung said. "We are looking to follow attorney general guidelines. That's all we can do at this point".
Giacobone is scheduled to address the drug charges at a hearing in Fort Lee Municipal Court on January 8, 2019.
