Jack "The Ripper" Clark Accuses Albert Pujols of Using Anabolic Steroids

Jack "The Ripper" Clark Accuses Albert Pujols of Using Anabolic Steroids

Jack "The Ripper" Clark has accused former Major League Baseball slugger Albert Pujols of using anabolic steroids. Clark had an 18-year career in the Majors including time with the St. Louis Cardinals; he became the hitting coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers after he retired from the game. It was during his position as a coach during the early 2000s that he heard about Pujols' purported use of steroids.

Clark claimed to have learned about Pujols' affinity for steroids from the slugger's personal trainer - Chris Mihlfeld. Mihlfeld worked as a conditioning coach with the Dodgers while Clark was a batting coach. Clark said he talked with Mihlfeld frequently. And on some of those occasions, Mihlfeld allegedly pressured Clark to use steroids.

Clark was no longer an active player when Mihlfeld suggested steroids as a solution to helping him get in shape. Clark told Mihlfeld he had no interest in using the muscle-building drugs. He was not a "needle guy" and only wanted a nutrition program. Mihlfeld persisted and used some of his clients as examples of what steroids could do for an individual. One of the clients mentioned by Mihlfeld was Pujols.

“He just told me that he wanted me to get started on steroids and he had some other guys that were doing it," Clark said. "...He had told me he had done that with Pujols, with steroids, and I really never thought too much about it because steroids were really not on my radar screen at that time.”

Clark just started a new job at WGNU (920 AM) radio. WGNU serves the St. Louis area. He co-hosts "The King and the Ripper" talk show with Kevin Slaten between 3pm and 6pm. Barely a week into his new gig, Clark started launching steroid accusations at Pujols. He claimed on air to "know for a fact" that Pujols used "shot up" with steroids.

Clark's naming of Mihlfeld wasn't the first time the personal trainer's name came up in connection with steroids. When pitcher Jason Grimsley admitted using steroids and was suspended by MLB in 2006, the spotlight shined on Mihlfeld since he was Grimsley's personal trainer. Since Mihlfeld also trained Pujols, the media speculated that Mihlfeld supplied steroids as one of his services to his clients. Pujols defended Mihlfeld at the time.

As far as Clark's motivations for launching accusations at Pujols (and other baseball players), it seems that Clark has no tolerance for " guys that are cheating and faking, (are) phonies and frauds..." Clark claims to be sickened by "creeps and lowlifes like (Mark) McGwire" and apparently wants to drag their names through the dirt.
