Irish Judge is Doing Everything He Can to Keep an Steroid Dealer Out of Prison

Dublin District Court Judge John Brennan really doesn’t want to send steroid dealer Agris Bremsmits to prison. But Bremsmits is practically daring Judge Brennan to send him to prison anyway.

During a sentencing hearing on on October 23, 2017, Brennan allowed Bremsmits to avoid a 12-month prison sentence if he would only pay a €5,000 fine. He even gave Bremsmits a full year to come up with the money.

The year came and went. And Bremsmits didn’t come up with the €5,000. He actually didn’t come up with any money at all. So Judge Brennan hauled him into court to ask him what was the problem.

Defense attorney Matthew Holmes represented Bremsmits at the hearing in Dublin District Court on November 15, 2018. While Bremsmits sat silently, Holmes begged the judge not to throw his client in jail. He pleaded for extra time for his client to come up with the payment.

And once again, Judge Brennan extended leniency to Bremsmits.

Judge Brennan gave the Latvian-born bodybuilder another couple of months to pay. Bremsmits must pay in full by the next court date in January 2019. If Bremsmits does not pay, Judge Brennan could very well run out of patience and send him to prison.

Perhaps Bremsmits does not realize how fortunate he was to avoid jail in the first place. Bremsmits was busted for openly using social media to promote and sell steroids through a Facebook page called “Steroids Ireland”.

Bremsmits got caught in large part because he sold steroids to a teenager. The mother of the 18-year old client was pissed when she found needles while cleaning her son’s bedroom. After a little investigating, the mother learned that her son was buying steroids via “Facebook Ireland”.

The mother filed a complaint with the Irish Health Product Regulatory Authority (HPRA) in 2015. This set of the events that led to police to Bremsmits’ front door.

HPRA officers and An Garda Síochána officers executed a search warrant on his home. Agents seized and detained a total of 3,351 tablets and 287 ten-milliliter vials. The bodybuilding drugs included anabolic steroids such as testosterone and Dianabol, erectile dysfunction drugs such as Viagra and other miscellaneous ancillary drugs such as Clomid and Nolvadex.

Bremsmits pleaded guilty to nine counts of “supplying medicines without a prescription or marketing authorization and for advertising” and ‘supplying anabolic steroid containing medicines through a Facebook page and by mail order”.

Bremsmits has remained gainfully employed as a personal trainer since his conviction. He has been employed as a personal trainer at Fit4less Finglas. His services have also been promoted by the Verve Gyms Swords as a “Conquer Supplements Nutrition & Personal Trainer”.

Hopefully, Bremsmits will be able to put aside a few paychecks to pay his fine and stay out of jail. Or maybe he will continue to explore the outer limits of Judge Brennan’s patience and generosity.
