Australian Domestic Steroid Source Arrested Again for Selling Steroids Only Weeks After Pleading Guilty

Australian Domestic Steroid Source Arrested Again for Selling Steroids Only Weeks After Pleading Guilty

Dylan Shaw, the Australian man who set up the Swole Ninja Community on Facebook with his girlfriend Nateesha Barlin to sell anabolic steroids, was busted again only weeks after pleading guilty to multiple charges related to steroid importation and trafficking.

NSW Police arrested Shaw outside a restaurant located in the Sydney suburb of Belmore in July 2018. Shaw was busted while allegedly completing a drug deal. Police found approximately $200,000 on his person during the drug deal. A search of his home uncovered more drugs.

In addition to finding unprocessed raw anabolic steroid powder and some steroid pills, police also seized an unspecified quantity of crystal methamphetamine.

The arrest seems likely to have sabotaged any Shaw had of avoiding prison on his first steroid conviction. An ongoing investigation is seeking to determine if his girlfriend Barlin was also involved in the most recent misadventure into drug dealing.

Shaw and his girlfriend appeared to be likely candidates for a new type of sentencing option called the Intensive Correction Orders (ICOs). A ICO sentence would have allowed Shaw and Barlin to avoid going to prison. As an alternative punishment, Shaw and Barlin would be subjected to strict supervision and extensive monitoring and drug testing while they remained free to live and work in the community.

In November 2016, the Sowle Ninja Community steroid network was shut down after a two-year sting operation by the Australian Border Force (ABF). ABF seized 17 packages containing a total of 13,672 tablets of various pharmaceutical drugs, 11,200 milliliters of testosterone, 600 milliliters of other injectable anabolic steroids, 102 capsules of oxymetholone (Anadrol), 120 milliliters of clenbuterol, 195 vials of Somatotropin and 20 vials and 55 ampules of hGH during a two-year period between October 2014 and October 2016.

In May 2018, Barlin and Shaw pleaded guilty to multiple counts of unlawfully importing prohibited tier 1 goods (testosterone), human growth hormone and the deemed supply of steroids. NSW District Court Judge Michael Bozic felt that the couple was truly remorseful and had made efforts to reform their lives.

Judge Bozic suggested that he was inclined to hand down an ICO sentence. Unfortunately, Judge Bozic  may have changed his mind following Shaw’s latest arrest. Bozic indicated that he is now experiencing a “profound unease” regarding the matter.

Judge Bozic has pushed back the sentencing date to December 13, 2018.
