Description
Dyrenium is the brand name for triamterene, a moderately potent oral diuretic used to treat numerous conditions, as well as edema - excess fluid retention.
Dyrenium can also be used to treat excessive aldosterone (a hormone produced by the adrenal glands to help regulate the bodys salt and water balance) induced edema. Dyrenium can be taken by itself or in conjunction with other diuretics to enhance their effects, and to incorporate its potassium-sparing property.
Form
Prepared for oral administration, each capsule (opaque red cap and body) contains Triamterene USP dosed at 50 and 100 mg, and is imprinted in capital letters with the product name DYRENIUM and the strength (mg dosage).
Indications/Purpose
In athletic and bodybuilding circles Dyrenium is used to decrease subcutaneous fluid to achieve heightened aesthetic presentation. A popular sports diuretic, Dyrenium is also used by those athletes who need to weigh in prior to competition, i.e. make weight, a requirement generally found in the fight game among wrestlers, boxers, martial artists, etc. The administration of Dyrenium permits such athletes to dehydrate for their weigh-ins, and rapidly rehydrate for competition.
Dyreniums onset of action is 2-4 hours after ingestion, and in normal volunteers the mean peak serum levels of 30 ng/mL were reached at the 3-hour mark. However, it doesnt reach maximum effect until several days later, depending on several factors. Furthermore, how long Dyreniums effects last are also contingent upon multiple variables, but they typically subside 7-9 hours after discontinuation.
The recommended dosage for hypertension patient treatment is 100 mg twice daily after meals (at least 8 hours apart) for a total of 200 mg per day. Bodybuilder/athlete dosing is the same, but should not exceed the maximum 300 mg/day total. Although Dyrenium is often used as a stand-alone drug, many bodybuilders stack/add it to other stronger diuretics like furosemide or hydrocholrhiazide for even greater effects.
Side Effects
There is of course a very real possibility of side effects, as with most medications. Dyreniums possible side effects are identical to those of Oretic, HydroDIURIL, Microzide, Ezide, and Esidrix.
Immediate medical assistance should be sought in the event of allergic reactions such as: swelling (lips, throat, face, or tongue; hives; or difficulty breathing.
Additional side effects, those that are less urgent but still warrant Dyrenium discontinuation and possible medical attention (depending on severity) include:
- irregular heartbeat
- light-headedness, drowsiness, restlessness, or fatigue
- low grade fever
- dark urine
- clay-colored stools, or diarrhea
- jaundice
- cessation or reduction in urine output
- weakened breathing
- tingling or numbness
- tremors or confusion
- vomiting, nausea, or stomach pain
- muscle weakness or pain
- loss of appetite
Nevertheless, Dyrenium is very safe as the manufacturer reports negative side effects in merely 1 in 1000 or less users.
Additional Information
Dyrenium, and triamterene in general, is often stacked within combo diuretic blends, but is readily available alone as well. Due to its low cost, high safety reputation, genuine effectiveness, and high availability, Dyrenium ranks as one of the most athlete selected diuretics.
It is generally administered along with cutting anabolic steroids including Winstrol, Trenbolone, Oral Turinabol, Primobolan, testosterone (cypionate, propionate, and enanthate), Deca-Durabolin, Dianabol, and Oxandrolone.
