Is Justin Bieber the Smallest Anabolic Steroid User Ever?

Is Justin Bieber the Smallest Anabolic Steroid User Ever?

By Millard Baker, Senior Writer, Steroid.com

Is the five-foot, nine-inch and 140-pound Justin Bieber the smallest anabolic steroid user ever? A British tabloid called The Daily Sun recently accused the King of Pop of developing a dependence on anabolic steroids in a story published on January 25, 2014. The story carried the headline "Beefed-up Bieber is a roid rager" . But was Bieber really using steroids?

The tabloid cited an anonymous source who said that Bieber was allegedly using clenbuterol. Of course, anyone with a passing familiarity with performance- and appearance-enhancing drugs knows that clenbuterol is not an anabolic steroid.

Clenbuterol may be one of many drugs in the milieu of PEDs used by athletes but it is an entirely different type of drug from the hormones known as anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS).

Clenbuterol is a long-acting beta-adrenergic agonist that was developed to treat asthma. The bronchodilator also has some fat-burning properties that have made it popular among bodybuilders (and other individuals seeking to lose bodyfat).

Given the worldwide hysteria and general societal ignorance involving anabolic steroids, gossip websites (and even mainstream news media) have regularly used steroids to explain undesirable and/or violent behavior exhibited by famous athletes and celebrities.

The latest incident to precipitate the Justin Bieber is on steroids accusations involved an early morning arrest by Miami Beach Police officers on January 23, 2014.

The 19-year old Bieber was arrested after he was caught drag racing 19-year old R&B singer Khalil Sharieff on a residential street in Miami. Bieber was driving a yellow Lamborghini Gallardo and Sharieff was driving a red Ferrari. Bieber apparently won since he was seen on a Panamanian beach over the weekend with the reported winning prize, a 21-year old Chantal Jeffries.

In addition, Bieber was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI). His blood alcohol level was only 0.014%. It was well under the Florida legal limit of 0.08 for drivers 21 and over and also under the legal limit of 0.02 for drivers under the age of 21.

However, Bieber admitted to smoking marijuana and consuming prescription drugs. This admission was the basis for his DUI arrest.

Bieber did not admit to using steroids. There was no evidence that he used anabolic steroids, that steroids had anything to do with his decision to drag race, or that steroids had any part in his recent arrest. Nevertheless, the gossip websites have found a way to blame steroids as somehow being involved.

Even if the tabloid press's uncited source turned out to be telling the truth about Bieber's use of clenbuterol, Clenbuterol is not a steroid and does not behave pharmacologically in any way that resembles anabolic steroids. It is a fat loss drug. It is not a steroid.

Unbelievably, it's not the first time that Bieber has been accused of using steroids.

In March 2013, Bieber's reckless and aggressive behavior was attributed to his use of steroids.

Bieber had threatened to "f*cking beat the f*ck out" of a paparazzi after swinging wildly at the photographer. In the same month, a neighbor in the gated community of Calabasas (California) feared for the safety of his wife and three young children after Bieber allegedly told him he was "gonna f*cking kill" him.

Rather than hold Bieber accountable for his behavior, the media seems intent on blaming steroids and roid rage for such immature and reprehensible actions.

In their desperation to link Bieber to steroids, gossip websites have even resorted to pseudo-science of muscle profiling by pointing to changes in Bieber physique as evidence suggesting steroid use.

''As well as drinking and smoking weed, Justin's been taking steroids to give himself a six pack," according to one anonymous source. ''His physique had gone from boy-like to muscled in a very short time and his moods have become wildly erratic.''

If the 5-foot 9-inch pop star needed to use steroids to tip the scales at 140-pounds, he is clearly doing something wrong. That would place him among the smallest steroid users ever.
